Abstract

The panel discussion will involve the impact of key decisions made by the Indian Supreme Court on economic matters. It assesses the direct effects of these rulings on relevant sectors and its' impact on both society and economy.

About the Speaker

Ram Singh

Prof. Ram Singh is the Director of Delhi School of Public Policy and Governance (DSPPG) and a Professor at Delhi School of Economics. He did his Ph.D. (Economics) from Jawaharlal Nehru University and Post-Doctorate from Harvard University and has been a Fellow at London School of Economics. He is recipient of several awards and honours including Fulbright, Commonwealth, Erasmus Mundus and DAAD fellowships. He has taught at Brown University, Universities of Hamburg, and Heidelberg among others.

Prof. Ram Singh has published in leading international journals including Journal of Economics, Journal of Law and Economics, American Law and Economics Review, European Journal of Economics. He writes Op-eds regularly for leading national newspapers – especially The Economic Times, The Hindu and Dainik Bhaskar (Hindi). Areas of his expertise are public economics, law and economics, contract theory, taxes, banking and financial regulation. He appeared for the Standing Committees of the Parliamentary and has served on several committees of Government of India, including as a member of the 7th Pay Review Panel. Currently he is a member of the Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, and the expert panel of the Empowered Expert Committee on Institute of Eminence.

Pradeep Mehta

Mr. Pradeep S Mehta is the founder Secretary General of the Jaipur-based Consumer Unity & Trust Society (CUTS International), a global economic policy research, advocacy and networking, NGO established in 1983 in India, with centres in Nairobi, Lusaka, Hanoi, Accra, Geneva and Washington DC. Currently he is a Member of the WTO DG’s NGO Advisory Board, for the third time. He also serves on the G20/B20’s Council on Africa’s Economic Integration. He has also served on the GOI’s Board of Trade; Better Regulatory Advisory Group; Steering Committee on Ecomark etc.

Recipient of the M R Pai Award in 2007 and the SKOCH Excellence Award in 2021 for his dedication to promoting competition and consumer protection, and the Scindia School’s Madhav Award for Old Boy of Eminence in 2018. In September 2023, conferred the prestigious Business World Social Impact Award.

A prolific writer, gifted speaker, skilled trainer and organizer in the social science field, Mehta has been named as one of the 30 most famous columnists in India by a leading newspaper in India.

Devi Prasad

Devi Prasad retired from the Indian Economic Service (IES) of Government of India after an illustrious service of over 30 years (1982 to 2014). He was the Founding Director of Fiscal Policy Institute, Bengaluru, Government of Karnataka and had served as Advisor to Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund, Washington DC. He carries technical and administrative experience from the Departments of Economic Affairs (Budget Division and Capital Markets Divisions), Department of Commerce, Forward Markets Commission Mumbai, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Delhi Development Authority, Programme Evaluation Organisation Hyderabad, and Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (now part of Ministry of External Affairs).

He has been delivering lectures on fiscal policy, budget management, macroeconomic management, public policy, public financial management, military budget, and right to information at several institutions such as ASCI, Hyderabad; IIPA, New Delhi; IIM Lucknow and Bangalore; Indian Business School, Bangalore and Gurgaon; National Institute of Financial Management, Faridabad; Administrative Training Institute, Mysore; NIT Warangal; Centre for Land Warfare Studies, New Delhi.

R.K. Chopra

Professor R.K.Chopra, doctorate in telecom laws with post graduation in Electronics, Management and Law, having experience of more than 4 decades, in academics and corporate including client, consulting, contracting and technology companies. He has been professor of law at UPES Dehradun from 2018 to August 2023. His subject interest being Corporate law, Constitutional Law, IPR, Comparative Public Law and Research methodology. He has delivered lectures and presented , published papers in Scopus , ABDC journal, UGC care on various emerging topics on Administration of justice, corporate law, IPR, dispute resolution both at national and international level.presently an independent consultant on various techo legal issues.
